To celebrate the 100th anniversary of this historic trail, organizations throughout the Adirondacks are creating museum exhibits, hosting trail work parties, gatherings with NPT alumni, and more. Whether you want to get your feet — and hands — dirty on the trail or learn about the trail’s history, find an event to join the celebration.

Northville's Kick-Off Celebration

3 day Olympic-style kickoff event to recognize National Trails Day and the NPT 100 Celebration. Hikers, visitors and trail workers can expect full community support educating the public on the NPT Trail and Northville’s iconic, historic role.

National Trails Day - NPT

Adirondack Mountain Club will kick off its trails season and a summer of centennial celebrations with National Trails Day, in Northville, NY. Following a day of projects, festivities will be held in the evening in honor of the NPT’s centennial anniversary.

Volunteer Project: Rock Lake to Mud Lake Clearing

Join the 5-day Rock Lake to Mud Lake Clearing volunteer project, hosted by the Adirondack Mountain Club. Open to those aged 14 and older, the program involves trail maintenance, camping in the Silver Lake Wilderness, and daily hikes of 3-7 miles, offering a perfect chance for trail enthusiasts to contribute to the Adirondacks without prior experience.

Tuesday Trail Talks and Tours

The ADKX is introducing a new monthly series in conjunction with our temporary exhibit called Tuesday Trail Talks & Tours. Join us each month to learn more about the people who hike, maintain, and work to preserve the Northville-Placid Trail today. A short tour of the exhibit will be given by ADKX’s project team after each presentation.

Northville-Placid Trail Traverse

Adirondack Hamlets to Huts is excited to celebrate the 100-year anniversary of the Northville Placid Trail (NPT) by offering a guided, supported trip for trekkers seeking to hike the entire 138 miles of the trail or one or two 4-day sections of the trail. Our lodging includes diverse options: community stays, cozy glamping, and lightweight backcountry camping.

Volunteer Project: Bog Bridge Replacement

Join the 5-day Bog Bridge Replacement volunteer project by the Adirondack Mountain Club, open to those 14 and older. No experience needed. Help replace bog bridging in the Blue Mountain Wild Forest section of the Northville-Placid Trail, camp on the trail, and contribute to trail sustainability with guidance from experienced crew leaders.

Trail Mix & Tunes at Piseco Lake

Located at the Inn on Piseco Lake - The Irondequiot. There will be live music, food, venders, activities and crafts for kids, demonstrations and info tables, and special appearances by Smokey the Bear and Bigfoot! S'mores and a campfire will close out the evening! More details to come.

Birding Hike with Joan Collins

Join Joan Collins on a bird walk through diverse habitats, offering sightings of various bird species, including Black-backed Woodpeckers. The event, starting from the Route 28N trailhead near Long Lake at 7 a.m., requires registration and is jointly sponsored by Northern New York Audubon and the Long Lake Parks and Recreation Department. Maximum of 15 participants - Rain date: September 15th, 2024.
